Paperback Release July 27, 2010
This is an unusual review as the author is a fictional character from the ABC dramedy CASTLE. ABC has created an entire fictional life for this author who is played on the show by Nathan Fillion and it is his picture that appears as the author on the back cover of the book. On the TV show, Castle is following NYPD Detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) as research for his new book series about female NYPD Detective Nikki Heat. HEAT WAVE is the first book in that series.
In HEAT WAVE a New York real estate tycoon appears to have jumped to his death landing on a Manhattan sidewalk, but Nikki Heat's team, has determined that he was pushed. Not suicide, but murder and there is no shortage of suspects. Nikki's team includes Jameson Rook (think chess, the rook is also called the castle), a reporter who is doing an article on the NYPD. There a heat wave plaguing New York, deadly secrets are revealed and some that are only revealed as Nikki Heat, Jameson Rook, and the rest of the team finally put all the puzzle pieces together.
I like the book because I like the series, it is like one of the episodes only with the names changed. With that said you do not have to be a fan of the show to enjoy this book. It is a fun read at only 198 pages and the romance of the characters in the books goes beyond the sexual tension on the series which was a nice surprise.
The next installment to this series NAKED HEAT will be released on September 28.
Now for a little fun.
I will give away my personal hardcover of HEAT WAVE to one winner.
