Silent Kill by David Fingerman Review & Giveaway

AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT:
From David's Website:
Until my final quarter at the University of Minnesota, I was a journalism major. At the time that I was registering for classes, I thought that I had another quarter to go before I could graduate. Looking over at what prerequisites I had left, I realized that if I switched majors I could graduate that quarter. I graduated with a B.A. in Speech-Communications. Granted, to most people a journalism major looks more impressive than a speech/
communications major, but I was young and I wanted out. I have no regrets.

After college, it took almost five years for me to pick up a book and read for pleasure, and ten years to actually sit down and write for the pure satisfaction of writing. Like so many writers, writing is not a choice, but a necessity. It just took me a while to realize that. Fortunately, the lapse was temporary.

Since then I have taken writing classes at The Loft and other writing programs, but the most helpful experiences are the two writing groups that I belong to: the minneapolis writers workshop, and the southside writers group. And of course — to keep writing.

THE BOOK:
Silent Kill takes Minneapolis Police Officer, Louise Miller and the Hennepin County Sheriff's Department, which includes new Deputy Andrew Miller, (Louise's brother) on a wild ride of twists and turns of extreme proportion.  It starts when one cop goes missing and doesn't end until there are more bodies and several other lives hanging in the balance.  As the puzzle pieces start to fall into place, the danger gets way to personal for Louise and each move she makes could end up with her making the ultimate sacrifice.

THE REVIEW:
I tried to read this book in one sitting but the horror and madness is so great, the reader must take breaks for reality to seep back in before continuing.  This story is both mind-bending and mind-spelling.  It is an extremely gory account of several terribly horrific events.  Unfortunately there are real killers in the world actually committing the types of crimes and murders Fingerman is writing about.  This story puts it right in your face.  It's like a traffic wreck on the highway and you don't want to look but can't help yourself.  I put this book down a few times but I had to pick it back up, I had to know the outcome.  The story draws you in and doesn't let you go.  I really like thrillers and mysteries while the graphic descriptions did make me a little uncomfortable but I kept right on reading, the is truly a book that is unputdownable.  If you are not comfortable with extremely graphic violence this is not the book for you, but if you are like me and drawn in by the description just beware you won't be able to stop until you read the last word.
