"The Girl" is busy constructing a new website so for the time being this feature is being hosted by lia sophia tomgirl. She has a great blog, be sure to check it out!
For most of the winter my Feel Good Friday posts have including something about my youngest son's basketball year and baseball is starting so be prepared for some more sports related Feel Good moments.
Today though I am going to tell you about my oldest son, who turned 26 this past week. This was the first year in a long time we didn't celebrate his birthday here. Last summer Kris and his wife Amber moved into their own place, as adult children do. The house is not the same without them here.
I want to use today's post to tell you what a wonderful son he is and why just seeing his face or hearing his voice makes me Feel Good. Being the oldest we experienced all the usual firsts with him, walking, talking, school stuff, etc. But as he reached the ages of 5 - 6 he became interested in the new age thing called video games and it is still his passion today. That and World Wrestling Entertainment. When he was about 12 her even went to a church camp with a focus on video games. He also loves movies and has a vast collection, he could have his own rental store.

Now for the hard part. Kris turned 16 just 14 days after my accident and I wasn't here for him. His grandmother taught him to drive and made sure he got his license. His aunts, uncles and family friends made sure he had food, clean clothes and the support he needed. He also started his first job at that time at a local grocery store. This is where he really came alive and could focus his thoughts elsewhere and not on his mom being in the hospital. It was the outlet he needed.

After he graduated high school, took a try at college, he continued to live here at home to help with my care, chauffeur me around, and help with things around the house as did Amber when she joined our chaotic family. It was hard the day they moved, even when they are only a few blocks away. I was very accustomed to their presence in the house. But time does not stand still and it was past the time of giving them their wings and letting them fly.

And he has flown. Today he is one of the store managers of that store. It has gone through different owners but is now owned by Roundy's and is a Pick-N-Save store. He has worked in almost every department in his 10 year career and excelled at every position, even dressing up as Santa for Christmas. It was there that he met the wonderful young lady, that became his wife, made many friends and found his place in the world. Over the years all 4 of my children have worked there. Elizabeth and Jayme still work there, Katy left when she started her current job. Their cousins have worked there and some still do. Many customers and friends joke that it is the family business.
Kris & Amber |
Kris was a young man that was clearly given a huge dose of lemons but he has amazed me by the way he has turned them into lemonade. He has a great future to keep moving up within the Roundy's corporation. He and Amber also have a wonderful future ahead. I cannot express in words how proud I am of my son.
Kris and his nephew Kaden |
As he now enters the next stage of his life, I know the sky is the limit for him. He has had to handle some really tough things in his life and each one has made him stronger. Jeff, I, his siblings, Kaden and maybe others are invited to his home this Sunday evening to watch some pay-per-view wrestling. Maybe I can take a birthday cake too, so we can still celebrate as a family. Old habits are hard to break.
