To All Google Friend Connect and Email Followers

Dollycas's Thoughts has moved to Escape With Dollycas Into A New Book.
I tried to transfer my followers from this blog to the new one but it did NOT work.
The previous feeds you were receiving through these two options were not transferred correctly due to misinformation from Google/Feedburner. It transferred all your nice pictures here and listed you as followers but you were not receiving information from the new blog only the old one.
For this reason I am asking you to please join Escape With Dollycas Into A Good Book again, just like you would have had to if Google had not let me back in.
If you follow using Networked Blogs, that application has been having issues since Facebook made it’s major changes last month. If may just be easier to like the Escape With Dollycas Fan Page by clicking the Facebook Button in the upper left column or using this link.
I am so sorry for the inconvenience.
I know I have asked a lot of you the past 2 weeks and I hope everything from now on runs smoothly with no more glitches.
As always feel free to contact me at dollycas@hotmail.com or leave comments.
Thank you!!

Dollycas Is Moving

Last Sunday I woke up to find that this blog, Dollycas's Thoughts had been disabled by Google, along with all my other Google Accounts. Not knowing if or when I would have access again,  I started over at Wordpress.  First the free version and then the updated version.  It is still a Work In Progress but I invite you all to come check it out.

You will find a cleaner, clearer, cleaner blog.
It will load much faster and all the bugs
and errors of this site will be gone.

  • If you were following using Google Friend Connect those connections have been transferred.
  • If you were following by email, you will have to re-enroll for that.  I tried to transfer the Feedburner info but it shows I have 0 followers at me new site.
  • I also added a Facebook Fan Page to try to help people find me. If you want to check it out it is at Escape With Dollycas Into A Good Book, or just click the Facebook Button on my new blog.
  • There are also Twitter, Linked In, and Google Reader Buttons as well.
  • If you had entered a giveaway here prior to October 8th, I now have access to those forms again but the contests were started over on the new site.  You do not need to enter again.  I will combine both lists.
  • There was a new Cozy Wednesday post with Jennie Bentley with a giveaway that includes an entire set of her Do-It-Yourself Series.
  • The history of this blog will not be transferred but most of my reviews are up on several sites and there is a link to the ones on Amazon on the new blog.
  • This blog will remain open as long as Google allows, but all new posts will be on the new site.
I hope you love the new site as much as I do.  There will be some growing pains and little fixes that need to be made.  Leave a comment any time if you have problems or questions.  I love to hear from you!!!

The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle

The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes
A Penguin Original
Published by The Penguin Group
Available Now!!

Sherlock Holmes, the world's best-known and most-loved fictional detective, is more popular today than ever. This collection presents many of the most familiar cases Holmes and his assistant, Dr. Watson, ever solve, including "Silver Blaze," "The Greek Interpreter," and "The Musgrave Ritual." As Holmes's fame grows, it brings him notoriety that piques the ire of London's criminal underworld, who begin to scheme against him. It is in "The Final Problem" that Dr. Watson relates the grisly, fatal, and shocking tale of how Holmes finally meets his match, encountering the diabolical Professor Moriarty in a terrible struggle at Reichenbach Falls.

I have to start out by telling you that when I was asked to review this book, it took me only seconds to respond.  My husband and I are huge Sherlock Holmes fans.
Exhibit #1 Our Cats

Back in the days when there were just 4 television selections, ABC, CBS, NBC and PBS, chances were pretty good that late nights on Fridays or Saturdays there would be a Sherlock Holmes movie on at least one of the channels.  My favorite Holmes was Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce was my favorite Dr. Watson.  But today with the Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes movie starring Robert Downey, Jr. and its sequel coming out in December there is a whole new audience for the Arthur Conan Doyle character. If you are a fan of the television show House you would also notice many similarities between Sherlock Holmes and Gregory House.  In fact many episodes contain actual Holmes references. For example in the season two finale, House is shot by a crazed gunman credited as "Moriarty," the name of Holmes's nemesis. Today I just found this article that says CBS is working on a modern day Sherlock Holmes story. BBC already has out their own contemporary series. There are even cartoons based on the characters and books written about Holmes for all grade levels.

I guess what I am trying to say are these stories are timeless and can be read again and again at any time in your life.

Be sure to go see the new movie in December.  I am not sure I like explosions and shooting but that's what is in all suspense movies these days.

I am more a fan of the Holmes in this book who uses his deductive skills, perceptions and sharp observations to solve the cases. This is a fantastic book for the older fans like me and a great way to introduce new fans on how Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson started out.  The first story was published in 1887 and the character of Sherlock Holmes is still relevant today.  Sir Arthur Conan Doyle has truly created characters that are timeless and who I "deduce" will be with us in one form or another forever and ever.
